Maine Real Estate License - Education Requirements
2-Year Sales Agent License
Pass an examination or complete a 39 hour, state approved sales agent class
Must pass the state exam within one year of completing the prelicense course
License is good for two years and cannot be renewed
Associate Broker License
Be at least 18 years old
Show proof of a high school diploma or equivalent
Show proof of state residency
Must have two years of experience as a sales agent
Complete an 84 hour, state approved prelicense course
Pass a proctored final exam (grade of 70% required to pass)
Pass the state exam (grade of 75% required to pass)
Broker's License
Be at least 18 years old
Show proof of a high school diploma or equivalent
Show proof of state residency
Must have one year of experience as an Associate Broker
Must pass the state exam within one year of completing the prelicense course
Complete a 42 hour, state approved prelicense couse ("Role of a Designated Broker")
Pass a proctored final exam (grade of 70% required to pass)
Pass the state exam (grade of 75% required to pass)
Continuing Education
Every two years a total of fifteen (15) clock hours of continuing education
Required: Offers and Counter Offers - 3 hours
Remaining twelve hours can be from general or prescribed courses
RENEWALS
All licensees renew by December 31st in the second year from initial licensure
