All applicants for a sales associate's license must be:
? 18 years of age
? have attained a high school diploma or G. E. D. equivalency. Candidates who have completed at least 28 credit hours from a post secondary institution may submit a copy of the transcript in lieu of the high school or G.E.D. diploma.
? have completed six semester credit hours in real estate courses from an accredited college or university OR 96 classroom hours in real estate courses from a Kentucky Approved Proprietary School. Courses must be completed prior to taking the real estate examination.
Effective July 1, 2001 all persons who will be taking the sales or broker examination or applying for a license through a reciprocal agreement must submit to a criminal background check. See document # 408 for a complete explanation of this requirement.
If you currently or have ever held a license in another state, you must include with your application a "License Certification" from that state along with your application. A copy of your license is not acceptable.
All applicants for a broker's license must be:
? 18 years of age
? must have been actively engaged in the real estate business as a licensed sales associate for a period averaging at least 20 hours per week for a two year period. Proof of these activities will be required in the form of a notarized affidavit signed by the principal broker(s) with which you have been affiliated for this period of time.
? have completed 21 credit hours, with at least 12 in real estate courses from an accredited college or university OR 336 classroom hours in real estate courses from a Kentucky Approved Proprietary School. Courses must be completed prior to taking the real estate examination. Effective September 1, 2002, all broker candidates must have completed a 3 credit hour/48 classroom hour course in brokerage management at an accredited or approved Kentucky real estate school.
Continuing Education
• The continuing education calendar year is January 1-December 31.
• 6 hours of continuing education is required every calendar year.
• 3 hours of the 6 hours must be in an approved real estate law topic.
IMPORTANT NOTICE:
If you are completing this course to satisfy your yearly continuing education requirements, the coursework and the final exam must be completed on or before December 31.
If you have filed a delinquency plan with the Commission, the coursework and the final exam must be completed on or before the June 15 deadline.
The course work must be completed and the student must pass the final exam before he/she will be considered as having completed the course for credit and that date must be on or before either of the mandatory deadlines outlined above. Please note that the mandatory deadlines take precedence over the 180 days of course access. Failure to complete the courses by the required deadlines may result in penalties and the cancellation or suspension of your license.
