I'm about to start creating a simple online store and am searching for cheap webhosts. The cheapest are in the US. Can anyone tell me whether it's advisable to go for an american host? Will there be problems accepting credit card payments etc?

You pays your money you take your choice. There will not be a problem with credit card payments via a US based webhost. What do you mean by cheap? You only get what you pay for. The more you pay the bigger and better the facilities. However for starters you can't go far wrong with 1and1.co.uk OR 1and1.com - take the basic package and upgrade as you grow. Good luckWDW

I have six domains and two are hosted by 'powweb'. Good support, reasonable pricing and no hassle. I have purchased domains and hosted solely through US based hosts as they are more efficient and totally up to speed with technology. Unfortunately I have experienced UK hosts to be 'lazy' but that is a personal opinion. Credit card payments are fine and I am in no way affiliated to them but was recommended by a UK web developer. All the best in your search.

For me this is a question of search engine optimisation. US websites are more likely to show up in US listings and the same for uk so the real question for me is do i want my website to be shown in googles uk listings or us?(FYI using google.com all countries get a slightly different search result shown biased to their location)
