...apartment is finished? My hot water tank was leaking all over my b-room closet-towels,soaps,bubblebaths,shampoos,wash cloths, hand towels,,jackets, radio, vacumms, coolers, lotions, powders, fem. products, etc. were drenched in rusty H2O.I took the next day off (while the maint. guy was fixing it) to clean up all of my stuff. The maintenance guy paid for 4 loads of laundry to be done. Rinsed all of my hygene products because rusty H20 coated everything. By the time I was done with the laundry and rinsing all of my stuff, the maint guy was done with the hot water tank replacement. After he left, I had to clean my entire closet (shelves and bar), mop my b-room and kitchen due to walking in and out of the apt., wash the walls (due to rusty H20 dripping all over them), and finally put all my stuff back in the closet. I ASKED MY LANDLORD FOR A "DISCOUNT" ON THIS MONTH'S RENT BECAUSE I TOOK AN ENTIRE DAY OFF TO CLEAN UP THE MESS FROM THE PLUMMER AND MAINT.GUY. I HAVE TO MEET WITH HIM 2DAY. DO U THINK RENT SHOULD BELESS

I'm not sure if he has a legal obligation to provide a cleaning crew. But given the mess this would have caused, I think he should have called in a housekeeping crew or had his maintenance staff clean up the mess completely.

If he is a nice guy, yes. To you or anyone else who rents - get a renters insurance policy. It will be the best money ever spent if something major happens to your building. The landlord has insurance on the building, but it does not pay for anything inside the apartments.( your stuff ) Check it out.

The rent will not be less because you have to pay the rent that is in your lease. It is possible, depending on your lease contract, that you may be able to recover for your monetary losses. Was the landlord/property owner negligent? Who knows, maybe your landlord will be nice and reimburse you for your time. It doesn't hurt to ask.

well, your days wages lost at least. Most landlords would have done the cleanup themselves.

I would thank the landlord for calling for repair so quickly.

I would hardly call water damage from a broken water heater "housekeeping". I would call it flood damage. I love the way landlords word everything to their benefit. While the landlord is under no obligation to clean any of your personal items he should be responsible for cleaning walls ,floors , and any other structural damage. (for lack of a better word)But the odds are if you approach him nicely he will make some sort of deal with you.
