Because we Brits still want to conquer i can do anything

because its cheaper to do it yourself, ime a window cleaner and charge disgusting prices.but can get away with it,so do your own windows lol.

Because it is so expensive to get a professional in to do it!

I found its a way to creating/improving your environment to your standards and at the same time it helps you develope an analyticalll perception to tasks and doin it with your spouse ..!! can also bring you more close together by sharing and learninggives me satisfaction to see a guarage door i made rather than paying a lot of money for one i think i missed my vocation somewhere..!Love Always

A few reasons, here are some.....It costs less.No VAT on your own labour.In most cases you get a better job done.You can get the style and effect that you want.You can take your time and get it exactly right.You don't have to make tea or coffee for rude. tradesmen.You can use better materials instead of the cheap stuff the professionals use, and charge you for the best.And you don't, or can't rip off your own self.Plus the satisfaction of seeing the end result.If you take you time, you will be able to be as good as some,or most, 'professionals'?

I suppose it a lot of cases if you can do the job yourself taking you time and patients you can save you self a lot of money.As the saying goes if you want a job doing then do it your self When you consider tradespeople are making a living out of what they do then they charge a lot of money for a service, but you also expect quick service, with a guarantee.A lot of home improvement items have been made/geared up to help the diy person do a good job!

Because the average Brit wants something for nothing and they think DIY will save them a few pounds but if they had seen some of the DIY disasters that I have come across in the last 30 years in the trade they would leave anything but the basics to us professionals especially when the structure of the dwelling is involved.With the new legislation being introduced such as house sellers packs a lot of these disaster areas will be unsellable due to shoddy workmanship and unsafe practise by unregistered workmen or householders.
