Have a current lease with my landlord, which does not expire until April 30, 2008 and get subsidised housing assistance, so the lease is also with the housing agency. Now all of a sudden the landlord wants me to sign another lease between he and I and charge me another $100.00 per month. without housing knowing, he said it would be a lease between he and I. I do NOT want to jeaporidise my housing assistance. Please help? What are my legal rights and what should I do? Your help and advice is greatly apreciated.

I suggest calling the housing agency and letting them know. I would also call your state's department of housing (I'm pretty sure that's not the official title, but you know) and ask them what you CAN do.

Um, that sounds fishy. If you are getting assistance, you have to get approval for any sort of increase in payments. Please call the housing department.

You already have a legal and binding agreement with your landlord. Unless there is language in your existing lease that the landlord can raise your rates during the contract period, he is breaking the law.I would report him to the housing agency and to the district attorney's office.
