...estate agent? Never dealt with one before and we want to sell our home and purchase and or build our new home in another state, what do you look for in an agent that will be honest and won't charge you an arm and a leg? Thanks to all that answer.

sell it yourself on line,save the commission and get your best price...agents will sell low if it's on the market too long ,a couple thousand on sales price only nets them a few dollars

Make sure the agent is free to show home to you when you are available.A good agent will promptly return phone calls, take all your questions seriously and answer them. They should be available to show you homes. Some offices (most) have websites you can view to narrow your search. A good agent will be concerned about what you are looking for in a home and will work very very hard to find that home for you.Commission rates are pretty standard, but you can ask..and you can negotiate. Some agents will work with you, others will not.
