I recently moved into a new apt. in West Des Moines. I have two bathrooms in my unit, one of the toilets in the unit will not flush and has not been working for a week now. The landlord has been notified and a work order was placed. I have been waiting almost a week now to get it fixed, the people working in the office told me that it would be fixed within 24-72 hours. I have called and asked how much longer it would be and the only explanation I have been given is that it is peak time with people moving in and out of apts so my work order has to take backseat to getting rental units ready for new tenants. I am wondering if there is a law that states the amount of time the landlord has to fix things, esp. a toilet. (Which I think would be something they would want fixed ASAP because of sanitary reasons!)

I am in property management in las vegas nv and i have to say that we would NEVER tell a resident that they weren't our top priority...i am so sorry that you have to deal with this...do they have a corporate office? I am sure they have someone up above that you can talk too...that is simply not right. Although getting apartments ready for new people IS important they usually have a "make ready" tech whose sole job is to do just that and a "service" tech that focuses on current work requests...i would call the better business bureau if you cannot reach upper management...good luck
