Take the class in whatever state you are in. If possible, get in touch with any local real estate agencies and see if they will possibly pay for your class in exchange for you working for them in some capacity after you pass the class.

I'm an agent in TN. Here you have to take a 60 hr basic principles class followed by a 30 hr affiliate broker class. Then you schedule your exam. Once you pass the exam, you interview with brokers. I work for Keller Williams. KW offers the most in house training. You have to order your E&O insurance and your broker will send your application to the RE Commission. Once it's approved and your license comes back to the office, you can start practicing. I don't know what state you are in but that's pretty much the abreviated version of the way it works here.
