It really depends on what you are talking about. If you really want to make sure that your credit remains good, just make sure that you pay your bills on time.If you are trying to get rid of something derogatory, however, is a much larger process.First, get a hold of the credit report for yourself.Second, submit your dispute with the credit bureau. Usually this can be done from the credit bureau's website. If they don't correct it, ask the credit grantor (the party who put it there) to have it removed or send in documentation to the credit bureau that the information is incorrect. Lastly, if you cannot get the party who put it there to correct it and you don't have documentation, then you can either give up or get a law firm to handle it. Don't expect Transunion, Experian or Equifax to correct anything just because you dispute it. One of them told me that I was 60 days late on a payment of $0.00 per month. I sent my explanation in. They rejected it. I sent my explanation by certified mail. They rejected it again. Then I let a law firm take care of it. Then, they paid attention and removed it.
