The best way to fix bad credit is to avoid it. I know that is not much help, but you have to pay your bills on time before bad credit will age off your credit report. If you are having trouble paying your bills on time it is very important to contact the creditors as soon as possible. The creditors really just want you to be able to pay your bill, they don't want to bankrupt you or make you eat ramen noodles every day for dinner. There are some reputable credit counseling agences that can help. Make sure they are members of the NFCC - a credit counseling accrediting agency. It may sound strange but the creditors support the NFCC because it is to everyone's advantage to have bills paid on time and in full. It costs the companies money to send you to collections, or write the balance off. If they can work out a reasonable repayment plan with you then both sides win.

Pay as much as you can on your bills. Pay off the smaller bills first, and then concentrate your money on the larger ones. You can also try writing the credit department of your debtors, and asking for a reduction in your interest rates, which are the biggest part of your bills. Three to six months should be enough to let you get ahead. However, you will need to keep making somewhat larger payments in a timely manner after the grace period ends.

start with ordering a credit report from the three major credit bureaus, settle old accounts and follow with a secured credit card, BANK OF AMERICA offers a good one with a $250.00 deposit and they will explain the rest.
