from a real estate secretary's point of view... its better to go through a realtor... Latter & Blum, Coldwell Banker, ReMax, etc... so that you do not get screwed... a licensed realtor will work for YOU in getting everything passed properly into your name and let you knwo if you are paying too much or getting a good deal!!

I really like yahoo's realestate options, that lets you brows properties and introduces you to the sellers.

drive around, ask questions, find a piece you like and get ahold of the county auditor, they'll tell you who ownes it, contact them ask em what they're doing with it if they have plans for it and how much they owe or are looking to get out of it.... its the best way to get good deals... of course before you buy, you'll want to do tittle searches and stuff to make sure you can do what you want with the property after you buy it...
