true that backlinks are the number 1 factor? I know there are hundreds of factors on SEO but I'm specifically looking at what is the most important factor assuming I have already built a webpage that is optimized for search indexing. I heard that backlinks particularly on very high relevance sites will boost my webpage to go up the search results but wonder if this is true.

Links on other sites pointing back to your board are a major factor in your ranking on search engines. Also important is to make sure that your pages contin the keywords that people would enter to find your site. As you said, there are a lot of different factors, but these two are the most important in my opinion.edited to add: A lot of boards create pages that look like different sites to add backlinks, and search engines have been made a lot smarter to identify these. It's best to use links that are truly on other sites. Also, I don't think the Meta data helps as much with keywords as having the keywords actually on the pages of your site, so try to make sure you incorporate it with your text displayed on the pages.Good luck on your site.
