A blog is a kind of online journal (web-log, which is where 'blog' comes from). Usually it's got a kind of diary format where people make entries every so often about whatever topic the blog is about. They often contain links to other sites or news stories that are related to the topic. They generate traffic by building an audience of people that enjoy the blog and come back to see what new posts have been made.

Blogs give people a place to put their thoughts out in the open, can act as a venting tool, and can help network people together with others of like mind.
