It's called estimation, this is achieved by visiting home improvement centers such as Lowes or Home Depot and choosing what you want and pricing it....

#1. Make A LIST...Each Room/Den...Kitchen... (measure width x length) etc. ALSO...measure Windows, Door Opening/Closet Door Opening, etc. then under each room (1)Replace floor covering with (example) Wood:Cost Labor:CostNEXT: Go to Lowes/Home Depot/Discount Lumber Yards/Internet, shop and compare prices for the style/amount needed/cost,etc.Next: Call area/local installers and get quotes with/without materials and THEN the figures on U and UR Family supplying the LABOR COST.Next: Compare the 2 quotes and WHICH WILL BE THE LEAST EXPENSIVE and One BIG QUESTION: Do U have the time to do the work URSELF.***WE ALL KNOW THAT IT IS LESS EXPENSIVE TO LAY/DO THESE IMPROVMENTS OURSELVES***(Same Room) Continue this process for each replacement/improvment needed.NOW U CAN CONSTRUCT UR ACTUAL COST versus BUDGET (sure U have an ideal/approx. ideal.
